April Activities Take Judge Shapiro from Allegan County to Barry, Kent, St.
Joseph and Washtenaw Counties
On Monday April 12 Judge Shapiro spoke to the St. Joseph County Bar Association and answered questions from the audience.  He also toured the St. Joseph County courthouse and met with the St. Joseph Circuit, Probate and District Court judges.  On Friday April 16 Judge Shapiro met with Allegan County citizens.  He spoke about challenges facing the Michigan judiciary and took questions from the audience.  On Wednesday April 21 - Judge Shapiro attended the meeting of the Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys in Grand Rapids.  Also in attendance were the Kent County Family Court judges and several other Court of Appeals judges.
On Thursday April 22 Judge Shapiro toured the State Alternative Incarceration facility/boot camp in Chelsea.  He met with Warden Groff and his staff and attended several of the prisoners' classes and activities.  The boot camp is an important alternative to prison for first time offenders.
On Friday April 23 Judge Shapiro spoke to the Family Law Section of the Washtenaw County Bar on how to best present divorce, custody and related cases to the Court of Appeals.
Judge Shapiro capped a full month on Friday April 30 by attending Law Day celebrations at the Barry County Courthouse.  He was introduced by Circuit Judge James Fisher to a crowd of more than 100. The key note speaker was Congressman Pete Hoekstra.
